Trees and shrubs growing too close to powerlines can cause a fire, bring down a powerline causing an electric shock, or disrupt the electricity supply.
Whether you own or rent your home, it’s your responsibility to make sure your trees or shrubs on your property are at least 1.5 metres away from the powerlines, or 1m from service lines. For higher voltage powerlines or in a bushfire-prone area, the minimum distance increases.
If your tree or shrub is closer than the minimum distance away from powerlines or might fall close to a power line, it is a requirement that you use an Evoenergy accredited tree surgeon like TreeWorks.
When pruning trees or shrubs you should allow for a three-year regrowth. To keep the costs of trimming down you should trim trees to at least 2.5 metres from powerlines. The space vertically above the powerlines should also be kept clear of trees at all times.
